Here’s one which brightens up my day anytime.

Back then I was totally sucked into the idea how you can earn massive passive income off the internet. The ability to make money just by moving electrons over the wires from my computer through to the cables connecting me to the internet.

Ka ching!! I have US$10,000 dollars for this money without having to meet a single human being in the face.

Suits a extreme anti-socialist like me, who somehow just liked to hang out alone in the mountains than to risk losing dignity / handling the fearsome creatures called “strangers”.

Of course that didn’t work out. The Ka Ching!! never came.

Then I was introduced to network marketing, and I naively thought I could do the same with MLM; not having to meet with prospects and sharing my business opportunity to those who are interested.

And yet again the previous Kai Wei who believed in “STAY AT HOME” business falsehood thought he could build his network marketing business just by driving traffic to a website and have prospects sign up to his MLM opportunity.

So did it work?

Nope…that didn’t work out.

Sitting at home earning a 5 figure income without leaving your home and talking to someone?

Utter nonsense.

Complete rubbish cooked up by hype Get Rich Quick clowns pulling the wool over your eyes by saying you can “Earn Freedom Just By Staying At Home”.

Then came one of those important learning life lessons you just get out of the blue. You know…the sort of “Oh my…” when a strong sense of awe that washes over you and left you sleepless for a few nights?

I attended a internet marketing seminar quite a while back, and met a lady who I immediately recognized as the author of one of the first Internet Marketing eBook I purchased. I went up to her, said hi and shoke her hand. After a chat, she offered me a joint venture.

Just like that.

For the entire 3 day seminar I spoke to no one, just sitting down there like a nerdy student putting his glasses on and jotting down notes. Then on the very last day the very first person I spoke to…a internet marketing entrepreneur making US$12,000/mth, offered me a joint venture just like that.

Wow.

Back then I never knew that opening your mouth could bring you such wonders.

But you have to keep your tongue in check. The key to getting into a conversation is to LISTEN. We have 2 ears and a mouth, and we’re born like that for a purpose.

Here’s several tips to engage in a conversation…and eventually exchanging business cards.

1. Say Hi.

Yep. The first step is the easiest, and may be the most difficult for some. You sit down at a seminar…you have two strangers sitting next to you.

The key difference between saying “Hi” to strangers at a seminar and saying “Hi” to strangers when sitting on a bus (and looking like a idiot desperate for friends) is that those strangers at a seminar are there for a common purpose.

To learn something. You’re at a seminar to learn something too.

That provides a common ground for you to build a connection.

“Hi!” *Offering a handshake*

“Hey! Nice to meet you!” *Returns the handshake. Most will do. Haven’t experience the agony of my handshake not being returned…maybe I will someday, then that will be a GREAT story to share with you in the future.*

That’s one way to start a conversation rolling. Just talk naturally, without any agenda in mind other than to make friends or give value given the chance.

DON’T share your business opportunity just yet. You do that, the friendly atmosphere will instantly vaporize. Your new friend will bring up his/her sales pitch shield faster than you can blink, and will ignore you for the rest of the seminar as if you just betrayed them.

2. Ask

Ever come across the situation when you just hit upon a topic drought after the initial greetings?

Those tense moments of nerve wrecking silence when either side can’t think of anything to discuss after the initial greetings, when you wished you had never said hi?

Well I learned from 2 GREAT books, 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey and Dig Your Well Before You Are Thirsty By Harvey Mackay, that people like other people to be interested in them.

It’s a FANTASTIC learning point.

Once your mental forecast BLARES out to you that a disastrous “topic drought” is descending putting you and your new friend in a silent hell…

Ask them something…Who, What, When, Where, How.

“How did you know about this seminar?”

“In the papers today.”

“Oh…then you read about the case of that controversy of that Chinese uneven bars gymnast being underaged?”

“Yeah! Haha…just look at that photo. She doesn’t even look 14! But did you watch the event on TV? Her performance was awesome!”

And the ball continues to roll comfortably.

Topic drought averted, no parched sands and boney remains of a decaying conversation to be seen.

Now…I won’t be recommending any books about how to engage in a conversation, because the best and fastest way to do it is to just TALK.

Look up in the newspapers for preview seminars, search around your Facebook community for events, join a networking group…

Just get out of your home, armed with a stack of business cards, join an event where people gather for a common purpose…

And just say “Hi!”

Find out why Traffic Secrets 2.0, in my opinion, is a MUST have for anyone new to internet marketing, and how it can benefit experienced online business owners as well.

Be warned, it will probably be the most biased review you’ll ever read.

If you are just brushing this off as just another short review written to attract affiliate cash…you’ll be missing out on the opinion of a disappointed Traffic Secrets 2.0 customer.

Hmm…weird heh? The very first line I’m blatantly advertising it…now I’m saying I’m a disappointed customer?

You’ll know why here.

We swear at the ever rising cost of public transport that is suppose to move us at low prices.

We cursed at the cost meter every time we fill up our cars with petrol.

We demand for explanations the moment the price of our groceries jacks up.

Not enough dollars for our lives, and limited funds for our business. We simply don’t have enough of anything do we?

Right now if you feel you are gutted every time you invest money to buy you traffic, be it through Google Adwords or eZine advertising, your fears can be justified. It probably means you have no confidence in putting in money to try out some new tactics to generate MLM traffic to your blog or website.

It’s pretty much normal for anyone starting out. I used to bite my lips every time I have to take out my credit card from my wallet to drive MLM traffic to my site, not knowing if my limited funds are put to good use.

So here are 3 tips to drive traffic to whatever you want to achieve. Generate MLM leads, to drive prospects to your MLM sites…you name it.

Blog Commenting

Blogs are interesting. They tell stories and give you a little insight to the type of person writing the blog post. And bloggers make good prospects as they are probably quite knowledgeable about publishing content on the Internet. This makes them much easier to teach how to drive MLM traffic website to whatever MLM opportunity they and yourself are promoting.

Find blogs which are centered around the themes of self-development…home business or affiliate marketing. These folks are prime candidates for your MLM business.

But for goodness sake don’t comment for the sake of commenting. Don’t post:

“Hi there! Nice post!”

Then leave behind your name, website and jump to the next blog the moment the internet browser refreshes. Most probably, you have wasted your time as most blog owners are smart enough to moderate their comments before allowing it to be view to the public.

If they see a drop of comment dirt, they won’t hesitate to delete it from the face of the existence. I would. So don’t waste your time posting “hit and run” comments. You are not giving value to anyone, and that works out to no traffic for you in the end.

Forum

We humans are social animals. We like to congregate in groups with other people like ourselves, and talk, talk, talk.

The latest soccer match…the coolest clubs to visit…the best place to go for a family outing…the like.

There are forums too for people who want to build their own home based business.

Where to find opportunities…does MLM work…how to drive MLM traffic…which seminar to attend…what books to buy.

People are looking for information. So do your bit and share what you know. Squeeze out every ounce of value into your posts, and you can be assure there will be people wanting more from you. Then at the end of your post, be sure to leave your name and your MLM site address for those who are savouring for your wisdom.

And again…please don’t spam? Unlike blogs, most forums don’t moderate your post when you hit the publish button. And its not just one guy who will see your post in forums, especially popular ones. Once you post, everyone will see that you are a valuable member of the community or you are a jerk wasting everyone’s time.

Article Marketing

The good old favourite. John Reese once said that content is KING KONG in the informational business online, and attracting MLM leads to you is no different.

People want good information, and they are always short of time to read books. So those 500-600 word articles are your MLM prospects’ favourite. Information condensed to a few managable paragraphs for them to quicky digest.

The more valuable information you pack into your article…the more they will want to know more about you and your MLM business. Coupled with a great headline and a enticing signature offering your readers more when they take action to visit your MLM site, the more MLM traffic you will get.

The trick here is to always give great but incomplete information. Pull your readers down all the way to the end of your article…and leave them hanging there at the last full-stop.

If your readers want to know more, tip them over the edge with a compelling signature box to whatever MLM site you want them to visit, most preferably an opt-in landing page to turn them into leads for your MLM business.

So here are my 3 favourite ways to drive MLM traffic to your website. The KEY is to always provide value to whatever discussion you are in, be it in forums or someone’s blog. And you have to keep posting everyday to generate significant results over the long run.

BTW, if you are truly on a budget, I highly recommend Building On A Budget by Mike Dillard. The latter used to live in an apartment with no furniture and had to survive on ramen soup for days because he had to divert every single cent he had into his MLM business. He is definitely one guy to listen to if you are tight on cash, for he has survived on a budget tighter than yours will probably ever be.

Now let’s get to the first statement made by the two hosts.

“MLM seems to be an easy way for college students to make lots of extra money just by networking with friends and family.”

Wrong. Dead wrong.

Multi level marketing is not easy if you are just starting out. Doing MLM is just like building a business, which is FAR more difficult way to earn money than taking up a job.

The difference is…you slogged hard to build your business in the beginning and if you are successful, you’ll have a much wider option in your life than if you slog hard in a mediocere job for the rest of your life.

Now onto the guy who failed in MLM. He said his upline told him the following…

“You have to try to recruit other people…”

Yep, that’s how it works. You have to recruit other people under you to make money in MLM. The critical difference is you have to be aware of the type of people you are recruiting in your business. If you recruit guys like the poor fellow in the video, you wouldn’t get anywhere.

When starting any business, you want the best talent you can find because the initial stage is always the most difficult. If you find guys like the chap in the video into your organization, you are going to suffer. You have enough on hand to launch your business, and now you have to handle another troublesome employee.

Whether she is an upline you are going to learn from or a downline who you are going to teach marketing and business prinicples to for at least half a year, You have to be careful choosing the type of person you are going to work with.

“You have to try buying the business support material…” Do I agree? Yes and no.

When he said business support material, I’m guessing that he is referring to the marketing materials the company has prepared for them…CDs…magazines…brochures…and other stuff.

Yes it’s essential to have some company materials on hand to help you with some specific details of the company such as the payment plan or the product details. It will be a bonus if those marketing materials are rock solid. Which unfortunately is often not the case.

But it will be a BIG NO if you depend on your company’s marketing materials to build your business. You are building your OWN business…should you put your face or the faceless company entity in front of your business?

Let me put it this way…should you be promoting yourself or your company?

If you say you should promote your company, you might as well get a job as a salesperson.

The fact is he brought whatever his upline told him to…shouldn’t he know what skills he lack and decide on his own? Shouldn’t he figure out that he need to develop his salesmanship skills or marketing skills and invest in books and courses?

He did not know what skills he is lacking…and that will probably mean he does not know what he really want out of the business too.

You don’t know what you want, you won’t get what you want.

Simple.

Next…

“Losing a thousand dollars a month in order to support his new business venture…”

Losing? Shouldn’t that be investing? I have read countless successful entrepreneurs investing tens of thousands, slogging away for years before they even broke even.

I invested $5,000 in my first venture and did not make a single cent out of it, though I have to thank myself for making that $5,000 entry for that investment has brought me to where I am today.

There is one point the video made sense…is to check out both the company and the team he or she is going to join. Has the company been around? What kind of guy is the leader of the team like? He joined the team blindly…it is a fault of his own and no one elses. I too made a mistake when I got sucked into the first seminar sales pitch in my life, never did any research and just plunged $5000 into it.

Mistakes which all newbies make one way or another. I made those kind of mistakes when I first started out.

It’s taking risk (not a gamble)…part of life of a business builder.

My message to that guy in the video?

“It’s unfortunate that you got into that “rabbit hole”, but you should have check out the type of guys you know you are going to work with instead of just joining them on the spot.

And read some self-help books…it may help you realize what you really want. I recommend The 4-Hour WorkWeek by Timothy Ferriss. Best Wishes!”

Mrs. Y is a 40 yr old mother who has 2 kids, and holding a full-time job as an office receptionist. Her husband is a car mechanic who sweats in a car workshop for 16 hours a day.

The family was doing fine, but Mrs. Y was far-sighted to realize she needed more money to give her two young children the very best education they can get, especially in highly competitive Singapore.

It’s Important To FOCUS.

No single MLM training home-study course or seminar can cover everything you need. You will have to search for some information to complement the course or to implement something.

For example…Magnetic Sponsoring by Mike Dillard taught that capturing your own MLM leads is the best way to build your MLM organisation. That would mean purchasing an autoresponder service and building a webpage with the autoresponder code in it to collect the names and email of interested visitors.

Magnetic Sponsoring does not explain how to build the webpage and configure the autoresponder. Both jobs are relatively simple tasks, but Mike Dillard does not dilute the focus of the Magnetic Sponsoring course to include technical details.

So I have to search the Internet for more information. That’s where the biggest danger lies. There are thousands of ads where ever I go. Adwords text ads…banner ads…big red headlines created by professional copywriters grabbing my attention by the throat.

“Improve Your Email Open Rates By Your Prospects To More Than 150%!”

“Email Copywriting Specialist Reveals His Greatest Secret To Increase Conversion By Up To 246%!”

Those ads stare at me like the wolf enticing Little Red Riding Hood.

It was a mental struggle to push aside all those distractions and focus on looking for autoresponders and HTML guides. I guess this was where Mrs. Y could not get through.

Don’t Learn Too Much At One Time.

I was an ambitious 19 year old when I made my first investment in my online business. I want to learn everything.

Pay-Per-Click marketing…article marketing…keyword research…search engine optimization…blogging…forum marketing…social networking…

One year later I was still an ambitious guy, but did not have much to show for my ambition save for a couple of hundred bucks in my Clickbank account.

Don’t attempt to be too gung-ho. Skills take some time to learn and A LOT of time to master. Our minds don’t like to multi-task, especially when it comes to acquiring new skills.

Learning how to do it is one thing…understanding the dynamics and getting significant results is another.

Setting up a Google Adwords campaign and stuff all kinds of keywords into an ad group is easy.

Anyone can do it.

But understanding how to create a “slippery slope” converting a visitor into a customer…how to create a compelling text ad with the right keywords tied to the right landing pages with the right sales copy…is not easy.

Hardly anyone can do it.

Some skills like Google Adwords pay-per-click can take months of practising before we start to see conversion rates of even 1%.

So don’t push it and try to master Adwords and 5 other skills at the same time. If you are working to free yourself from your job, don’t forget you probably have a few hours each night after a tiring day at the office.

Most Important

Brought and finished a MLM training course about prospecting on the phone? Pick up the phone and call someone.

Finished reading that Research chapter of your copywriting course? Get on the net, open your Excel spreadsheet and start taking down notes of what each of your competitors can offer to their downlines.

Don’t read a course and chuck it aside without doing anything.

Don’t be a $10,000 poorer Mrs. Y.

I’m guessing that the fact that you’re looking for training shows you’re one serious entrepreneur who’s really into breaking out of your 9-5 job routine. And your upline, whoever that is, is not providing you the information or guidance to help you build your dreams.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many uplines don’t provide satisfactory training for their team members…if at all. It’s because your uplines are probably facing the same problem as you…their own uplines are not teaching them anything either.

This is a real problem. You see, most of the brave folks like you who want to break out of their J.O.B jailhouse don’t have any knowledge or experience in building a business.

Most of us are schooled / trained / psycho’ed into listening to our bosses and focus on the small picture which is getting our little jobs done. And that’s quite a handicap when you’re out as your own boss building your MLM business.

So now let’s just cut straight to what you’re looking for. What should you look for when seeking MLM training? Here are several pointers…

• Does the MLM training curriculum understand that the student (You) only have a few hours after work each night to learn and implement the lessons?

• You have kids? You have household chores to settle? Does the MLM training know that you have these responsibilites on hand and you prefer simple action steps which allows you to get moving quickly?

• Remember seeing all those ads on the right side of the results page when you typed “MLM Training” into Google? Does the MLM training knows that there are so many ads to distract you while you are implementing what you have learned?

• Does the MLM training give you bite sized chunks of training so your head won’t spin at the enormous amount of information you have to digest?

• What is SEO? How to comment on blogs? How to attach an email signature at the end of the emails you send out? Does the curriculum knows that you probably don’t know all these little technicalities, and your downlines probably don’t know them either?

It really depends on what kind of training you need now or how experienced you are in marketing. But always remember…your downlines probably need the same training as you, if not more. So whatever you are seeking to learn, know that your downlines will want to learn it too.

For my business…myself along with close friend ( a 6-year MLM veteran) built a 45-day training system to provide the basic training to our team members. And we structured our 45-day training system with a very specific group of people in mind…team members who are still working, have limited time on their hands and very limited knowledge of marketing on the internet.

We divide our 45-day training into 7 day chunks, with each week focusing on a specific way to market their business on the internet and providing a eBook detailing all necessary steps to implement what they have learned.

Building a business can be quite a lonely and taxing experience especially in the beginning, so we made sure our training provides the encouragement, motivation and focus to push our team members to finish the entire 45-day training.

Now, you probably have a good idea what to expect from a MLM training course. One thing you have to note is that no single course can provide all the training there is. It doesn’t exist. You have to know what skills you’re are lacking at the moment and find a suitable course which is addresses your needs.

For my 45-day MLM training system, we provide training mainly for people who have never build a business before and they only know how to send emails. We believe this is the best value we can give to our team members.

If our team members are new to internet network marketing, the 45-day MLM training is going to provide them the CORE skills needed for them to advance further. If we have a team member who is already very experienced, he or she will have a training system will do the training for his or her downlines.

OK - the main lesson for today is be sure of what are the skills you are lacking, make sure the course will address your needs. And whenever you are searching for MLM training, do so with your downlines in mind. They’ll probably need it too.

I opened it up, and the very first 3 lines told me the message I was about to read is just another MLM marketing pitch.

“Hi Kai Wei, In my first week of joining this business, I started getting personal referrals for free and I haven’t done a thing! how is this possible?

FINALLY…an unselfish system that consistently drives help where it’s most needed…right at the newest members on our team…”

I mean…COME ON… Doing MLM marketing is not like selling a product. You don’t smack someone you haven’t even see in person other than a “Hi Kai Wei,” and start spilling the beans about why your MLM opportunity will allow you to sack your boss in months or having professionals to do all the marketing for you.

In the very first paragraph on my profile…I specifically describe myself as someone who is

“Just another guy exposed to tons of SALES PITCHES selling business opportunities.”

Looks like the guy who send me that message never did his homework of knowing a little more about his prospect, that this particular prospect is rather sick of reading or hearing MLM marketing pitches from strangers.

If that guy appears to center the conversation around me instead of him marketing MLM opportunity, if that guy ask me about the books I read or chat about the latest episode of Top Gear, I will send a message back to him.

Normally I don’t give a damn to people who fills up my inbox with pitches. They’re wasting my time opening them up and having to close them and delete them.

But that day I just happen to finish a chapter of Clayton Makepeace/Tony Flores copywriting course…about understanding your prospect…and I felt inclined to pass him some tips I learned that day about MLM marketing.

Did that guy gain anything from sending me a MLM marketing sales pitch on the very first message? NOTHING. In fact I don’t think I will even bother anymore about him.

He didn’t give me any value on our very first greeting, will he give me any value if I ever join his team?

In fact…he will be better off joining my team for $10.75 upfront, gain access to a 45-Day training module that my upline and myself created for our downlines, use the skills we teach you to sponsor 2 downlines, earn the 50% referral commission and be in the BLACK straightaway.

And he’ll definitely learn that pitching to a stranger will kill off your chances of prospecting 99% of the time. Or unless that unfortunate prospect is someone desperate for money in which case he should get a job, not get into a business.

To that guy who send me that message, here’s two tips.

People will lend you their ears when you give value to them upfront. You want to be successful? Help others first. And I don’t mean helping others by presenting a MLM business opportunity up front. That’s pitching. Don’t bother covering it up as helping as many people who are struggling.

You want to help? Know what’s their problem and give them free advice that they can apply and see results immediately.

Here’s the second one. Go buy this book. You are obviously trying to, as my upline puts it, catch butterflies by netting them one by one. That’s is a very poor way to do MLM marketing.

Build a garden…plant some flowers, and butterflies will come to you. Prospects will come to you asking for your advice or asking to join your team because you proved yourself to be valuable.
