I was on MySpace recently, responding to the usual add friend requests and receiving the usual dose of advertisements. While I was opening up my inbox to check for messages, I opened one which said Hi to me.

I opened it up, and the very first 3 lines told me the message I was about to read is just another MLM marketing pitch.

“Hi Kai Wei, In my first week of joining this business, I started getting personal referrals for free and I haven’t done a thing! how is this possible?

FINALLY…an unselfish system that consistently drives help where it’s most needed…right at the newest members on our team…”

I mean…COME ON… Doing MLM marketing is not like selling a product. You don’t smack someone you haven’t even see in person other than a “Hi Kai Wei,” and start spilling the beans about why your MLM opportunity will allow you to sack your boss in months or having professionals to do all the marketing for you.

In the very first paragraph on my profile…I specifically describe myself as someone who is

Just another guy exposed to tons of SALES PITCHES selling business opportunities.”

Looks like the guy who send me that message never did his homework of knowing a little more about his prospect, that this particular prospect is rather sick of reading or hearing MLM marketing pitches from strangers.

If that guy appears to center the conversation around me instead of him marketing MLM opportunity, if that guy ask me about the books I read or chat about the latest episode of Top Gear, I will send a message back to him.

Normally I don’t give a damn to people who fills up my inbox with pitches. They’re wasting my time opening them up and having to close them and delete them.

But that day I just happen to finish a chapter of Clayton Makepeace/Tony Flores copywriting course…about understanding your prospect…and I felt inclined to pass him some tips I learned that day about MLM marketing. Read the rest of this entry »
